Fishing Wordsley Basin - My First Centre Pin Experience

Last night's 1 1/2 hour fast fishing session was spent at Wordsley Canal basin where I'm told, during the day there are large carp cruising around.
Armed with bread and worms I arrived to what seemed to be a shallow weedy, but large canal basin.

Off topic for a moment, I have been toying with the idea of buying a centre pin reel for those trotting/stalking session on the river. My girlfriends dad kindly lent me one to try out so I took it along on this brief outing.

NOTE TO SELF: TAKE PICTURES OF FISH AND VENUE NEXT TIME!!!

My fishing buddy for the evening began chucking in small pieces of bread and within minutes the pool came alive! There were lots or carp between about 1lb and 6lb in a feeding frenzy.
When I tried to cast a piece of bread out no line came off the reel and I ended up in a right tangle. Attempt two was much the same. Attempt three saw me take off the bread, hook a worm and fish the margin whilst my mate went after the Carp that had appeared. 'Bloody centre pin reel!'
Once again a moment of ignorance where by I had not read anything about centre pin reels in advance and just bowled in thinking I knew what I was doing. (Another) Lesson learned!

Although no carp were landed I caught a couple of very nice perch of about 1lb! Fun using the wonderful centre pin reel!

To summarise, a very good spot for catching wild carp off the top with flaoting bread. Also a nice area for large-ish Perch. I will definitely be back... with my fixed spool reel!
